Cute shorts
I used 7-ounce white linen to make a skort from the tulip shorts pattern. In making the front flap, I just placed the front shorts piece along the fold of the fabric, center front stitching line placed on the fold, with the crotch piece folded back out of the way). Then I used the tulip pattern piece to shape one side of the front panel so that it curved away from the side seam. The shorts went together very quickly. This was my first pair, and I made them about a size too big, so I just ran a line of stitching down each side seam, taking out, oh, about an inch and a half overall. The only suggestion I might make is -- well, maybe I printed mine out wrong, but I didn't see any dots to denote where the "tulip" at the side seams start and where they stop, which is important only when hemming that little one-inch stretch of hem on the shorts front before stitching the side seams, as directed in the instructions. I just kind of guessed, but have since cut down to a smaller pattern size and added a dot on the pattern pieces myself, so I know where to do the initial hem of the tulip edge on the front pattern piece. Oh, I left off the pockets.
These turned out very nice! I was a little overwhelmed at the number of steps to create the shorts. However, everything was very clear and I completed all steps without having to use my seam ripper at all. I especially benefited from the two places where the pattern referred me to tutorials. I had never done pom pom trim so that was very helpful. The other was understitching which I had done but couldn't remember. The tutorials were very clear and useful. The fit on the shorts was very nice. I liked the elastic in the back that left the front very clean which was great due to the detail. These were a joy to make, because of the clear instructions. I'll definitely make more Bella Sunshine Designs patterns.
