I love a great fitting pair of shorts. Not only can the Okeanos be made as classic summer shorts, they also can double as board shorts with an optional swim liner. The elastic waist has the option for false front ties to give them a nautical look. Make them in one simple fabric, or do a version with two or three tiers. Add some hidden side seam pockets and a back patch pocket or two, and you’ve got a classic short that your child will live in all season long. This pattern comes with two length options: mid-thigh and slightly above the knee.

This Digital Sewing Pattern Includes:
Materials Required
- Woven Board Short Material – This material is lightweight and quick drying. It is designed with sun, sand and chlorine in mind to prevent fading. If you are making these shorts for regular wear instead of for swimming, a bottom-weight woven or regular quilting cotton can be used.
- 1” (2.5cm) Swim Elastic – While regular elastic may be used, swim elastic is recommended as it will last longer with use in chlorine and salt water. If you are making these shorts for regular wear instead of for swimming, braided elastic may be used
- 3/8” (1cm) Swim Elastic (For the Swim Liner leg openings)
- Mesh Lining Fabric (For the Swim Liner or Inseam Pockets for Swim)
- Fusible Woven Interfacing (For Optional Fake Front Ties and Patch Pocket Only)
- 2 – 1/4” (6mm) Metal Eyelets (For Optional Fake Front Ties Only)
- 7” (18cm) of 1/4” (6mm) Cording (For Optional Fake Front Ties Only)

SGNice shorts pattern that I can use for both my kids
I love how versatile this pattern is. I used it with quilting cotton and it makes for great summer shorts for the kids. My girl likes the shorter length while my boy prefers the longer length and I'm happy that I have both options in the pattern so I don't have to hack anything. The pockets are also nice and big and I like that I can make boardshorts with these when we finally get to go down to the beach.

I made boardshorts for my boys with this pattern and the instructions are great! I had never worked with boardshorts fabric or mesh before so was a little afraid ;-) But the instructions made it a real easy project and I'm very excited about my finished boardshorts :-)
