Sweet Lilly Sew Long Day 3: Sleeve Construction

For today's piece of the Sweet Lilly Sew Along tutorial you'll need:

1. 2 sleeves pieces of main fabric cut on the fold
2. 4 sleeve bands of main fabric
3. 2 pieces of Sleeve Ruffle of main fabric (or other prints)

Steps 15-16

Let's start by gathering your Sweet Lilly sleeves. Follow step 15-16 of the pattern tutorial for preparation! When you are finished with step 16, your sleeves should look like this

Steps 17-18

Now we are moving towards the sleeve bands and ruffles preparations! Prepare your sleeve bands and ruffles by following step 17-18 of the pattern tutorial! When you are finished with step 18, your sleeve bands and ruffles should look like this (picture shows RST)

Steps 19-20

Next, we are going to follow step 19 of the pattern tutorial to sew and finish off the side seams of the sleeves! When you are finished with step 19, your sleeves should look like this (RST)



Now, we'll attach the bands that are not folded to the sleeves.

Note: Here you have two sets of bands. One folded and one unfolded.

For this step, find the ones that are unfolded. With the wrong side of the sleeves out (like the photo above), place the right side of the sleeve bands (that are not folded on any sides) on the wrong side of the sleeves matching the side seams and the raw edges! Gathered your sleeves edge to match the width of the band and sew! Fold out the sewn band so what you see now is the wrong side of the sleeves and the right side of the band. Looking good so far! Put your sleeves aside for now!

Steps 21-25

Now, prepare and add the sleeves ruffles to the set of the folded band! Follow step 21- 23 of your pattern tutorial to prepare and make sleeve ruffles! Now let's add the ruffles to the folded band! Fun!

.Place your ruffle pieces right sides together on the unfolded side of each band. Match the raw edges and baste it in place.  Excuse my not-so-perfect ruffles, but this should give you a good idea of what we're aiming for.



For the next tutorial, you need to use your banded sleeves and your ruffled bands! See photo below.



Okay, so now we are going to align the raw edges of the banded sleeves to the unfolded raw edges of the ruffled bands right sides together matching the side seams! You will place the ruffles sandwiched between the bands! This is how they should look. Sew!

Steps 26-27

Now we are going to finish off the sleeves. Follow Step 26-27 of the pattern tutorial to finish off the sleeves! This is how they should look like! Inside is just good as the outside!

Finishing up the sleeves

Follow step 28-29 of the pattern tutorial to attach the sleeves to the bodice.  

Follow step 30-31 of the pattern tutorial to finish the neckline for both versions.
